With a background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Survey, aerial imagery has been an essential tool throughout my career. In 2013 I began looking into how to create my own hi resolution aerial imagery, I researched and kept track of the FAA's UAS regulatory development and Radio Controlled systems. Tired of waiting I decided I would build my own UAS and then the FAA came out with the Part 107 certificate. Wanted to get started as quickly as possible at that point, I bought two DJI Phantom 4 vehicles and got my Part 107 to start creating orthomosaics and taking aerial images for Land Surveying projects in Southern California. Soon after getting started geocgi, a GIS services provider based in Alexandria Virginia was hiring a GIS Analyst / UAS Pilot to perform larger projects than I was doing so I jumped at the chance and moved to Virginia. I continue to work for geocgi developing UAS solutions, products and policy for Government and private clients using various vehicles, fixed wing VTOL and multirotor, process data through multiple photogrammetry software and utilize the derivatives in various GIS platforms.
