In an effort to capture promising fishing spots while Kayaking, I knew I had to get in the air. Encouraged by the thought of big fish and the coastal hideaways where they may take refuge, I signed up for UAV flight training through DARTDrones. Little did I know that the doors would open to a whole new world of technology, photography, and videography. Aerial imaging quickly became more than a simple interest in finding where the fish are gathering. My employer discovered that I was active in the air and asked me to develop a UAV capability for surveying project sites in support of munitions response services. I established the company’s first UAV program that included policies and procedures as well as customized flight plans. I have traveled to numerous interstate project locations to collect aerial image data and have operated under a variety of weather conditions. After Hurricane Irma passed through the Tampa Bay area I performed numerous post-storm flights assessing property damage and roof inspections for families that evacuated. This no-charge service proved invaluable and provided reassurance to all those who couldn’t return home that their homes were still standing. I enjoy all facets of UAV flying and especially rewarding is seeing how it impacts each customer when a great video or photo satisfies their objective.
