A native of St. Louis, MO and a graduate of the University of Missouri, I sold my first photo to a newspaper at age 15. Four decades as a journalist, including stints as a reporter, photographer and the last 30 years as a photo manager at newspapers in South Carolina and Illinois have developed my skills as a visual problem solver.
A member of the National Press Photographer's Association, ASMP and an emeritus board member of the Associated Press Photo Managers, I retired from daily newspapers in 2013 to pursue freelance photography.
My experience with aerial photography began with shooting from a restored Stearman biplane, then from the skids of helicopters while on a variety of assignments.
Current assignments include sports, events and commercial work for the University of Illinois as well as agricultural clients.
